As a general rule, laptop and netbook computers use less power than their desktop counterparts. My current machine uses 25-30w when running at full power from the mains charging the battery. Many desktops would struggle to stay below 100w and some use up tp 300w.
The reason for this is that most laptops/netbooks need to be very power efficient to get the most out of their battery when unplugged from the mains.
The power for this laptop is a mix of home produced solar and power supplied by Ecotricity on their 100% renewable energy tariff.
The tarrif costs the same as my old supplier but with an premium of .5p per Unit. Using 100% green electricity is therefore slightly more expensive than fossil or mixed electricity, but the environmental benefit outweighs the small increase. Living greener by managing the power you use will probably decrease your consumption substantially anyway. Resulting in lower bills.
